Nilai, Negeri Sembilan – 26 August 2026 – MILA University will host the Biotechnology Innovation Output Generation (BIOGen) Plenary 2026 on 9 September 2026, bringing together researchers from MILA University, Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (KARE), India, and Universitas Riau, Indonesia, to explore opportunities for international biotechnology research collaboration.
Hosted by MILA University and co-hosted by KARE and Universitas Riau, the online plenary will provide a focused platform for participating researchers to identify complementary expertise and develop interdisciplinary ideas. These discussions could lead to joint publications, grant applications, pilot studies, and future collaborative projects.
Through its emphasis on research outcomes, BIOGen Plenary 2026 aims to move beyond the exchange of ideas and lay the groundwork for continued cooperation among the three universities.

Connecting Expertise Across Three Institutions
The plenary will open with remarks by Professor Dr. Lee Chew Ging, Director of the Research Management Centre at MILA University and Plenary Convenor.
This will be followed by Expert Lightning Introductions featuring three researchers from each university. Participants will briefly introduce the research problems they are addressing, the methods or platforms they use, and the data, materials, or systems they could contribute to a potential collaboration.
The session will give researchers a clearer view of the strengths available across the three institutions and help them identify where their work, resources, and expertise may complement one another.
Developing Ideas Across Strategic Research Themes
Researchers will continue their discussions in focused breakout sessions covering three strategic research clusters:
Microbial Health, Infectious Diseases & Food Safety
Biotechnology, Bioprocess & Sustainable Bioengineering
Advanced Biomaterials, Nanobiotechnology & Functional Biomolecules
Together, the clusters encompass areas ranging from food safety, antimicrobial resistance, and bioinformatics to sustainable agriculture, biomaterials, drug delivery systems, and biosensors.
The sessions will examine how expertise from different fields could be combined to address challenges such as food insecurity, climate change, emerging infectious diseases, and environmental degradation.
Towards the close of the event, a plenary synthesis session will bring together the ideas and potential areas for collaboration identified during the discussions, allowing participants to consider how these could be developed further.
Building Research Connections Beyond the Event
BIOGen Plenary 2026 forms part of a wider effort to build a sustainable research partnership among MILA University, KARE, and Universitas Riau.
The initiative also seeks to create opportunities for staff and student mobility, knowledge exchange, capacity building, and joint academic activities.
