Bridging Media Education and Industry Practice

Mass Communication Week 2025 provided a comprehensive platform for students to explore the evolving landscape of mass communication, media production, digital content creation, and creative communication. This initiative reinforced MILA University’s emphasis on practical, industry-aligned learning, ensuring students are equipped with relevant skills for today’s competitive media environment.

By integrating academic learning with industry insights, the programme enabled students to better understand professional expectations, creative processes, and real-world communication challenges.

Industry Engagement and Hands-On Learning

A key highlight of Mass Communication Week 2025 was its strong focus on industry engagement. A range of industry-led activities allowed students to translate theory into practice while learning directly from experienced media practitioners.

An open mic session on filmmaking, featuring Director Mr. Sanjey Perumal and actors Mr. Ravin Rao and Mr. Kuben, offered valuable insights into film production, storytelling techniques, and creative decision-making within the film industry.

Students also participated in a photo editing workshop conducted by a professional photographer from Alagaan Studio, where they developed essential editing skills and explored visual storytelling methods. An advertising pitching session, led by the Founder and CEO of Prevail Production Sdn. Bhd., introduced students to creative pitching, campaign development, and strategic thinking in advertising.

Further strengthening industry exposure, a social media content creation workshop was delivered by an alumnus of the institution, Mr. Surendran, Head of Livestream at Sport Planet (Lazada, TikTok, Shopee). In addition, a poster design session conducted by Ms. Amy from AirAsia’s Leadership Development Campaign Department exposed students to professional design standards, branding principles, and industry-level creative workflows.

Creative Competitions and Student Talent Development

Beyond workshops and talks, Mass Communication Week 2025 also celebrated student creativity through competitive events that encouraged innovation and collaboration.

A short film contest, evaluated by Director Mr. Trise from Trise Film Production, attracted submissions from both internal and external universities. This initiative showcased student filmmaking talent while promoting cross-institutional creative exchange.

A talent show competition, judged by Dr. Thivya alongside a professional trainer from Vehaara Studios, highlighted the diverse creative and performance abilities of participating students. These activities reflected the vibrant creative culture fostered at MILA University and provided students with confidence-building platforms to present their skills.
