MILA University Launches English Enhancement Programme (EEP) 2025

MILA University proudly marked a new milestone on Tuesday, 8 April 2025, with the official launch of its flagship English Enhancement Programme (EEP). This innovative programme commenced with 77 students from Haikou University of Economics (HUE), China, embarking on a one-month immersive journey focused on intensive English training and IELTS preparation.

As one of only 18 official IELTS test centres in Malaysia, accredited by IDP Education Malaysia (official IELTS test centre details here), MILA University stands at the forefront of English language development in the region. MILA is uniquely distinguished as the only IELTS test centre in Negeri Sembilan, providing a vital opportunity for students from within the university and across the region to take the IELTS exam locally. This accessibility underscores MILA University’s steadfast commitment to expanding education access and supporting students’ global aspirations.

The EEP combines rigorous language instruction with interactive learning and comprehensive test workshops designed to build fluency, confidence, and exam readiness. Conducted entirely in English, the programme began with a placement test in the morning followed by a dynamic orientation session in the afternoon.

Professor Dr. Jason Fitzsimmons, Vice Chancellor of MILA University, delivered inspiring opening remarks highlighting MILA’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and its vision of providing international exposure through strategic global partnerships. Ms. Yuan Jie, Programme Director of HUE China, also emphasised the programme’s vital role in enhancing language skills and fostering cross-cultural understanding.

During orientation, students met key academic and support teams including Dr. Shanti Nair, Senior Lecturer at MILA’s Centre for Language Studies, and Ms. Kasey Wong, Head of Student Affairs. Both shared insights on the university’s strong academic support services and vibrant student life. Additionally, current MILA students shared their personal journeys, motivating the newcomers with stories of transformation and success through English learning.

From engaging ice-breaking sessions to group photos capturing the spirit of camaraderie, the launch event radiated excitement and set the tone for an enriching learning experience ahead. MILA University’s unique “Learn-Practise-Test” model equips students with practical communication skills vital for academic success and global opportunities.

As Malaysia cements its position as a hub for international education, MILA University proudly leads the way with programmes that foster academic excellence, cultural exchange, and global readiness. MILA encourages all students to “Always Pursue Excellence” in their academic and personal growth.
