Encouraging environmental awareness and shared responsibility across the campus community
Nilai, Negeri Sembilan – 22 April 2026 – In conjunction with Earth Day 2026, MILA University continues to highlight the importance of sustainability through meaningful action on campus. As environmental challenges continue to grow, awareness alone is no longer enough. Real change begins when individuals take responsibility in their everyday lives.
As part of this initiative, the university launches a CSR event organised by the Postgraduate Studies Department of the School of Management and Business. The event reflects MILA’s ongoing efforts to incorporate sustainability into both education and campus experiences.
Driving Awareness Through Sustainability Education
This launching ceremony was officiated by the Dean, Associate Professor Dr Sugumaran Selladurai, and featured an Expert Talk Series in conjunction with Earth Day 2026 titled “Sustainability in Higher Education: Implementing Green Campus Initiatives,” delivered by Dr. Nor Aishah Abdullah from Universiti Malaya. The session offered practical insights into how campuses can reduce environmental impact through actionable and sustainable practices.
More importantly, it encourages participants to reflect on their own habits and consider how small actions can make a difference. Sustainability is not just a one-day effort, but something that can be practised consistently over time.
Planting for a Greener Campus
A key highlight of the event is the tree planting activity, where approximately 10 trees are planted across the campus grounds. This initiative symbolises growth, responsibility, and a long-term commitment to environmental care.
It also contributes to improving the campus environment by enhancing greenery and supporting better air quality. More importantly, it gives participants the opportunity to be part of something meaningful.
Creating a Sustainable Campus Experience
Beyond environmental impact, the event enhances the campus landscape, creating a greener and healthier space for learning. A well-maintained environment supports both well-being and a more positive student experience.
The initiative also includes activities such as “gotong royong” clean up and tree planting around Bandar Baru Nilai which involves business communities, recycling efforts through donation and waste collection, as well as a showcase competition of green innovation projects using sustainable resources. These activities encourage active participation while making sustainability more relatable and practical.
At the same time, it helps build a stronger sense of responsibility towards the environment. When people take part together, the impact becomes more lasting and meaningful.
MILA University’s Commitment to Sustainability
This Earth Day initiative reflects MILA University’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and global environmental awareness. By supporting global movements like Earth Day, the university reinforces its role in shaping responsible and forward-thinking individuals while engaging staff, industry partners, and the wider community in meaningful environmental action.
Through initiatives like this, students are encouraged to look beyond academics and consider their role in contributing to a better future.
As sustainability becomes increasingly important, MILA University remains committed to creating initiatives that inspire awareness and action. The Earth Day launch serves as a reminder that meaningful change begins with everyone.
Every small step matter, and together, they can lead to a more sustainable future.
