China – 18 to 26 June 2026 – As part of MILA University’s ongoing efforts to expand its global academic network and strengthen international research collaboration, Ir. Dr. Ong Ying Hui from the School of Engineering and Computing (SoEC) visited three higher education institutions in China: Anhui Jianzhu University, Xi’an University of Technology, and Xi’an Polytechnic University.
The academic visit aimed to develop research partnerships in areas of shared expertise. Through meetings, research presentations, and institutional introductions, the visit enabled MILA University and the three universities to gain a deeper understanding of one another’s academic strengths, research priorities, and internationalisation initiatives.
Exploring Shared Research Interests
Discussions during the visit highlighted several areas of mutual research interest, including environmental engineering, water and wastewater treatment, renewable energy, sustainable engineering, advanced materials, and interdisciplinary research.
These common interests provide a foundation for potential collaboration through joint research, knowledge exchange, and other academic activities. The engagements also offered Dr. Ong an opportunity to introduce MILA University’s academic programmes and research capabilities, further raising the University’s visibility among academic partners in China.
Building on an Established Partnership
Another key focus of the visit was the possibility of MILA University hosting the 2nd International Forum on Environmental Pollution Control and Sustainable Development in 2027.
The proposed forum would build on the inaugural event jointly organised by Anhui Jianzhu University, MILA University, and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). Discussions on the next edition reflected the institutions’ shared interest in continuing academic dialogue and research cooperation in environmental pollution control and sustainable development.
Through this visit, MILA University strengthened its connections with universities in China while identifying potential avenues for longer-term academic and research cooperation. Such engagements support the University’s commitment to expanding its global partnerships and creating meaningful opportunities for research, academic exchange, and knowledge sharing.
