Haikou, China – 8 May 2026 – MILA University continues to expand its international academic network through strategic collaborations that promote knowledge exchange, research development and global engagement.
Associate Professor Dr. Song Bee Lian, Head of the Department of Postgraduate Studies, School of Management and Business, visited Haikou University of Economics (HUE) in Hainan, China, from 7 to 8 May 2026. The visit aimed to strengthen academic collaboration, foster research engagement and support internationalisation initiatives between the two institutions.
Cultivating Global Perspectives Among Students
A key highlight of the visit was a student lecture titled “Southeast Asia as a Window to China: How Business Students Can Cultivate an International Mindset”, attended by 75 students from HUE’s DZ School of Accounting.
The session explored the growing economic and business ties between China and Southeast Asia, encouraging students to develop a broader understanding of global markets and cross-cultural business practices. Through real-world examples and open discussions, students gained insights into the value of international perspectives in today’s interconnected business environment.
Dr. Song also introduced MILA University and its academic programmes, highlighting opportunities for global learning. The session became particularly engaging when several HUE students who had previously participated in study tours and English programmes at MILA University shared their personal experiences, sparking meaningful peer dialogue and exchange.
Advancing Research Collaboration and Academic Engagement
The visit also served as an important platform for strengthening research collaboration between MILA University and HUE.
Dr. Song also conducted two faculty seminars titled “Research Methods in Business: From Problem Identification to Theory Building” for lecturers from the DZ School of Accounting and the New Epoch School of Tourism and Civil Aviation Management, drawing a combined attendance of 81 academic staff members.
The seminars introduced participants to practical frameworks for impactful research, alongside discussions on future collaborative opportunities between the two institutions.
Drawing on her extensive academic and research experience, Dr. Song shared valuable insights that were well received by participants. The sessions also facilitated knowledge exchange, professional networking and discussions on strengthening long-term academic partnerships.
Exploring Innovation and Academic Development
Beyond the formal academic sessions, Dr. Song was invited by HUE’s senior management on a campus tour of key facilities and academic centres, including innovation and entrepreneurship, media, arts and technology hub, library and sports facilities. The visit offered a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas on academic development and institutional best practices, while gaining deeper insights into HUE’s educational ecosystem.
