PETRONAS Expert Shares AI Insights with MILA University’s Engineering Students

Nilai, Negeri Sembilan – 24 June 2026 – The School of Engineering and Computing (SoEC), in collaboration with the Industry and Alumni Engagement Department, organised an industry talk titled Petroleum Upstream Fundamentals and the Role of AI in Enhancing Technical Analysis on 24 June 2026. The session provided students with valuable insights into petroleum upstream operations and the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the energy industry.

 

Exploring AI Applications in Petroleum Engineering

The talk was delivered by Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Razmi Ziqri bin Ahmad Shukri, Senior Reservoir Engineer at PETRONAS, who shared his industry experience and expertise in petroleum upstream operations. The session introduced participants to key topics including reservoir characterisation, production forecasting, reserves estimation, and the application of machine learning in supporting technical analysis and decision-making within the energy sector.

 

Bridging Academic Learning with Industry Practice

Chemical Engineering students and staff benefited from the session, gaining valuable exposure to current industry practices and emerging technologies that are shaping the future of petroleum engineering. By connecting academic learning with real-world applications, the talk reinforced the importance of innovation and digital technologies in addressing the evolving needs of the energy industry.
