Programme Overview

The Master of New Media and Communication Studies is a dynamic postgraduate programme designed to prepare students for leadership in the rapidly evolving field of digital media and communication. Progression Pathways

Graduates of the Master of New Media and Communication Studies or related business/communication master’s programmes can progress to doctoral-level studies, including:

  • Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) – (ODL)
  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business – By research

Alternatively, graduates may pursue advanced doctoral or research opportunities at other universities, locally or internationally, in areas such as business, media, communication, digital innovation, or management, allowing specialization and career advancement in academia, consultancy, or senior executive roles.

Entry Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree  A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in Media and Communication with a minimum CGPA of2.50, as accepted by the HEP Senate (i); 

OR

A Bachelors degree (Level 6, MQF) in in Media and Communication with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a rigorous internal assessment* as determined by the HEP (ii);

OR

Any other Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) (Non-Media and Communication) with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 can be accepted, subject to a rigorous internal assessment and prerequisite courses determined by the HEP; 

OR

Others Other qualifications equivalent in Media and Communication or related fields recognised by the Government of Malaysia must undergo rigorous internal assessment as determined by the HEP.

Rigorous Internal Assessment

Candidates with a CGPA below 2.50, as well as those from non-media and communication fields, must undergo a rigorous internal assessment. Components include:

  • Online interview
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • English proficiency test (for non-media and communication candidates as required by MQA)
