Programme Overview

The Master of Science in Business (by Research) is designed to meet both regional and national needs for a highly skilled, research-driven workforce in the business sector. Business and management remain among the most promising and impactful fields globally, continually shaped by innovation, research, and commercialisation.

Recognising this, the Malaysian government has highlighted business and management as crucial drivers for Malaysia’s transformation into a knowledge-based and industrialised nation. To support this vision, the programme develops graduates who are not only academically strong but also capable of applying advanced research to address real-world business challenges.

The business industry today demands professionals with expertise across multiple disciplines including human resources, marketing, accounting, finance, management, fintech, and entrepreneurship. At the same time, the rapid adoption of Industrial Revolution 4.0 technologies and the rise of the digital economy call for leaders with sharper management skills, data-driven decision-making abilities, and the agility to respond to fast-changing market landscapes.

This research-based programme is purpose-built to produce graduates capable of conducting impactful business and management research, applying analytical and information-driven approaches to strategic decision-making, and contributing to a future-ready business ecosystem that fosters innovation, sustainability, and growth.

Progression Pathways

Graduates of the Master of Science in Business  or related business/communication master’s programmes can progress to doctoral-level studies, including:

  • Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) – (ODL)
  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business – By research

Alternatively, graduates may pursue advanced doctoral or research opportunities at other universities, locally or internationally, in areas such as business, media, communication, digital innovation, or management, allowing specialisation and career advancement in academia, consultancy, or senior executive roles.

Entry Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.50, as accepted by the HEP Senate;

OR

A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting CGPA of 2.50 can be accepted, subject to rigorous internal assessment;

OR

A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in non-related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 as accepted by the HEP Senate, subject to having relevant working experience and rigorous internal assessment;

OR

A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in non-related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 as accepted by the HEP Senate and without relevant working experience, subject to passing pre-requisite courses;

OR

Others Other qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) recognised by the Malaysian Government.
