Biography
Subramaniam Munusamy is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the School of Management & Business, MILA University, and a current PhD candidate at Universiti Putra Malaysia. He began his career as a Research Executive at the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Association (FOMCA) and was a founding member of the National Consumer Complaints Centre from 2003 to 2005. He has also contributed to various consultancy projects with government-linked agencies, including Talent Corporation and Ilmiah.
An active researcher and a member of the American Economic Association (AEA), his work is grounded in behavioural and consumer economics, with particular focus on intertemporal discounting, health economics, and addiction. With an H-index of 7 and over 360 citations, his research has garnered recognition for its relevance and impact. He has co-authored 18 peer-reviewed publications and presented numerous conference papers addressing key socio-economic and public health challenges in Malaysia. Notable contributions include studies on parental willingness to pay for COVID-19 and hand-foot-and-mouth disease vaccines, as well as public perceptions of hepatitis B vaccination—research that bridges economic theory with practical policy implications.
His recent work explores productivity and capital accumulation trends in ASEAN economies, providing insights into long-term economic development. This interdisciplinary approach reflects his commitment to evidence-based policymaking and to addressing both market behavior and broader societal concerns. He continue to advance the interface between behavioural economics and public health, making meaningful contributions to both academic discourse and national policy development.
