Synergising Knowledge and Practice: MILA University hosted Industry Engagement Talks and Workshop 2025

Nilai, Negeri Sembilan – 27 October 2025 – MILA University School of Business Management (SOMB) successfully organised the Industry Engagement Talks and Workshop 2025, themed “Synergising Knowledge and Practice: Driving Business Innovation and Future-Ready Talent”.  

The event brought together industry leaders, academicians, and students to explore the intersection of business innovation, technology, and education bridging theory with the real-world practice. 

Opening Ceremony Highlights 

The event was officiated by Associate Professor Dr. Song Bee Lian, Head of Postgraduate Studies, SOMB who delivered the opening speech. Ms. Maheran binti Mohamed, Head of SOMB, who emphasised the university’s commitment to bridging academic learning with industry practice.  

Both speakers highlight the importance of collaboration, innovation, and nurturing future-ready graduates capable of adapting to the evolving business landscape.  

A total of 98 students participated in the Industry Engagement Talks, gaining hands on exposure to professional insights and networking opportunities. Meanwhile, 60 students took part in the Interactive Workshop on AI and Business Analytics. 

Fostering Collaboration Between Academia and Industry 

The key objectives of the Industry Engagement Talks and Workshop were to: 

  • Fostering meaningful partnerships between academia and industry to drive innovation and collaboration. 
  • Promote knowledge exchange through keynote sessions, panel discussions, and workshops connecting research with business applications. 
  • Prepare students and researchers for emerging trends in digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), and data-driven decision-making 

Industry Leaders Share Insights on Business Innovation 

The event gathered an esteemed lineup of speakers, including: 

  • Professor Dr. Alex Ng Hou Hong, Executive Director, CC International Berhad 
  • Associate Professor Dr. Anatha Raj A. Arokiasamy, Lecturer, INTI International University 
  • Mr. Muchtazar, Head of Sustainability, Nickel Industries Limited (Indonesia) – joined virtually 

During this session, these industry experts shared perspectives on aligning academic research with industry needs, applying real-world business practices, and initiating joint innovation projects addressing digital transformation challenges. 

Panel Discussion 

A key highlight was the panel discussion titled “Bridging the Gap: Transforming Business Knowledge into Real-World Innovation,” moderated by Dr. Mohamad Khair from MILA University. 

Key takeaways from the discussion included: 

  • The importance of translating academic research into practical business solutions. 
  • Strengthening collaboration between universities and corporations to foster innovation. 
  • The growing influence of digital technologies, data analytics, and sustainability in shaping modern business strategies.

Interactive Workshop on AI and Business Analytics 

Following the panel discussion, Dr. Mohamed Khair led on interactive workshop focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Business Analytics. Participants engaged in hands-on activities to explore how AI tools and data analytics can be applied to solve real-world business problems. 

The session encouraged students to think critically and innovatively about integrating technology into business processes.

Participants shared positive feedback, appreciating the opportunity to learn directly from industry professionals and academicians. Many found the sessions valuable for gaining practical insights into business innovation, AI applications, and the strategic decision-making in a digital-first economy.
