Nilai, Negeri Sembilan – 4 December 2025 – MILA University marked a historic milestone with the official appointment of Y.A.M. Tunku Naquiyuddin Ibni Tuanku Ja’afar, Tunku Laxamana Negeri Sembilan, as its new Chancellor during a historic signing held at MILA University. This milestone reflects MILA’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and global engagement.

Event Highlights

The signing ceremony was graced by Y.A.M. Tunku Naquiyuddin Ibni Tuanku Ja’afar, the newly appointed Chancellor, along with members of the royal family, including Y.M. Tunku Mohamed Alauddin Tunku Naquiyuddin and Y.M. Tengku A’Liaa Muna Tengku Abdul Rahman.

The event was further honoured by Dato’ Ho Yong Kong from ShenZheng Development & Construction (M) Sdn Bhd along with the representatives of MILA University: Professor Chao Cheng Jie, Chairman; Professor Dr Cao Fei, Chief Executive Officer, MILA Education Malaysia; Mr Cao Qi, Deputy Chief Executive Officer; Professor Dr Graham Kendall, Vice-Chancellor; Dr Zhao Baoli, Vice President, Facilities Department; Mr Su Dan, ShenZheng Development & Construction (M) Sdn Bhd; Ms Anis Laila Yap, Chief Operating Officer; Mr Eddy Choo Boon Han, Vice-President, Marketing; Dr Jenny Yang Juanjuan, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Student Affairs, and Industry and Alumni Engagement Department, along with other senior members of the University’s leadership.

About Y.A.M. Tunku Naquiyuddin: A Distinguished Profile

Y.A.M. Tunku Naquiyuddin, born on 8 March 1946, is the Tunku Laxamana of Negeri Sembilan and the eldest son of the late Tuanku Ja’afar Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman, the tenth Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. His heritage reflects a long-standing tradition of leadership, public service, and commitment to national development.

Tunku Naquiyuddin began his early education in Malaysia before furthering his studies in the United Kingdom. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Economics from the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. This foundation shaped a career marked by contributions to diplomacy, governance, corporate leadership, and philanthropy areas that continue to define his impact today.

From 1994 to 1999, Tunku Naquiyuddin served as the Regent of Negeri Sembilan, a role remembered for its stability and thoughtful decision-making. His diplomatic career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs included service at the Malaysian Embassy in France, strengthening international ties and advancing Malaysia’s global presence.

A prominent figure in Malaysia’s education sector, Tunku Naquiyuddin has held leadership roles across major institutions, including Pro-Chancellor, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Chancellor, INTI International University, Chairman of Tuanku Ja’afar Educational Trust, and Founder of Yayasan Tunku Naquiyuddin. His initiatives have expanded opportunities for rural and underserved communities, reinforcing his long-term dedication to educational equity.

In acknowledgement of his contributions, he has received notable international awards such as the National Order of the Legion of Honour (France) and the Order of Bernardo O’Higgins (Chile), testaments to his influence in diplomacy, humanitarian work, and societal development.

With his appointment as Chancellor of MILA University, the institution steps confidently into a new chapter focused on academic excellence, innovation, and societal impact. His leadership is expected to further elevate MILA’s visibility, strengthen its identity, and support its mission of nurturing future-ready talent.
